Shanti S. Lewallen

Shanti Lewallen

Shanti Lewallen is the founder and capital partner of Lewallen Law, LLC.

Shanti is a passionate advocate for social and economic justice, bringing a unique combination of firsthand experience and legal expertise to his work. His commitment to representing individuals and communities often overlooked or underserved stems from a lifelong dedication to advocacy and equity.

Shanti’s advocacy journey began during his college years, where he actively opposed the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, recognizing the profit-driven motives behind these conflicts. His activism deepened when he moved to Portland and became involved in the labor movement, working as a longshoreman for over 20 years. This role provided him with a unique perspective on global trade dynamics, echoing the anti-colonial dependency theories he studied in college. Shanti’s work on the docks—exporting mineral wealth and importing manufactured goods—further solidified his understanding of economic disparities and fueled his desire to challenge inequitable systems.

These firmly-held beliefs about fairness, justice, and economic disparity informed his decision in 2016 to run for the United States Senate on the Working Families Party ticket.

Deciding to pursue law to strengthen his advocacy efforts, Shanti now focuses on leveling the playing field for the underdog. Whether representing clients in cases against employers, creditors, or insurers, he draws on his extensive background in environmental, anti-war, and labor movements to fight for transformative change. His ability to bridge diverse advocacy groups and unite them toward common goals underscores his commitment to justice and systemic reform.

Shanti’s practice is guided by a belief in the power of collective action and a relentless dedication to addressing inequities. His clients benefit from his sharp analytical skills, deep empathy, and unwavering determination to achieve meaningful results.

Outside of the office, Shanti, his wife, and two children enjoy camping, hiking, and anything that gets them outdoors.

Shanti is a Guardian member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
